So many unique and seasonal produce items that we have a separate room for produce.
Our produce department is located back behind the dry goods and grocery aisles (for your convenience, doors to this area are placed on both the left and right-hand sides of the store). Other than the seafood on the right, and the freezers towards the back, this room contains the majority of our produce. An open box showing the product (so you can inspect for quality) is located on the top shelves in the aisles and below it are the boxes of produce for sale.
Every day, consistent best sellers include broccoli, green onions, yellow onions, tomatoes, bananas and various Asian vegetables. There are also the basics: potatoes, yams, leeks, and other roots, berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries), vegetables (carrots, celery, cucumbers, peppers, onions, artichokes, okra), fruits (oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits, pears, plums), garlic, watercress, at least 40 different types of greens, and many others.
Be sure to bring a jacket. The produce room is keep at a low temperature to ensure freshness.
If you don’t find what you’re looking for, we have very many seasonal specialty items as well. Some are carried only during particular seasons, and others are carried year-round but may be less expensive and/or higher quality when in season. Some examples include pomegranates, cranberries, avocados, sweet corn, peaches, mangoes, persimmons, pumpkins, and yams.
In addition to seasonal specialties, we have some unique and worldly produce. Some that may sound new or exciting to you are: chinese eggplant, cactus, jicama, yuchoy, bitter melon, tomatillos, korean pears, thai coconuts, pomelos, dragonfruit, rambutans, and plum prunes. To help emphasize the uniqueness of our produce department, we also carry a large variety of each type of fruit and vegetable. For example some of our hot pepper options include: banana peppers, thai chili red peppers, serano peppers, poblano peppers, habanero peppers, cubanero peppers, and jalapenos. There are also over seven different types of apples (varies by season), at least four types of pears, and nine different types of mushrooms!
Finally, you never know what you will find. Over on the left side of our produce department is a cooler full of fruit and vegetables. The findings over here tend to be very eye-appealing. There are many bright colored options in this cooler, and it is very convenient for the consumer. Many of these items come pre-packaged in quantities of two to four making it very easy to grab and go. Unique findings in this cooler recently included bags of perfectly-shaped cranberries, chopped garlic, and delicious candy apples. You never know what you’re going to find.
Items in our produce department can be sold anywhere from individually to even as large as 50 lb bags! Some examples recently included a 25 lb bag of peanuts and even a 20 lb calabaza in the produce cooler. As Sanwa Farmer’s Market expands, we continue to keep our wholesale quantities as move our produce items to be sold individually (most are done)-the individual consumer is also very important to us!
